Capturing a moment in time for Svenskt Tenn

Glass bowl made together with Swedish heritage brand Svenskt Tenn.

The bowl is adorned with a relief made out of sound waves — stemming from a recording from the garden of the famous summer house of Svensk Tenn founder Estrid Ericsson, called Tolvekarna.

Extending from the base up to the rim — the relief immortalizes a brief moment of calm: birds chirping, flowers blooming and the soft late summer breeze.

The possibility of immortalizing a moment in time in an inanimate object was the entry point for this project.

Working with such a renowned and classical brand as Svenskt Tenn — the project aimed at finding new ways to explore and convey the brand and its founder’s history, values and philosophy using cutting edge technology, mixed with the traditional craftsmanship that the brand is known for.

Is it possible to trap sound in glass?

Svenskt Tenn’s founder, Estrid Ericson, was able to find relaxation at her summer house 'Tolvekarna' (The Twelve Oaks) on Tyresö, situated just outside of Stockholm. There she created her own private paradise. In contact with the abundance of nature surrounding 'Tolvekarna', Ericson´s fascination with form in all its shapes flourished freely.

The house was an integral part of Estrid’s life, both privately and professionally — its lush surrounding nature providing a source of inspiration and calm throughout her life.

The bowl is made out of mouth blown glass created in a one part mould at STHLM Glas. The sound waves from the recording of Estrid Ericson’s garden has been reworked digitally, 3D-printed and then inserted into the mould where the glass has been blown into. The waves now adorns the bowls as a relief.
